Every year, all students at MUS have a heated discussion about whether it is worth buying the physical books, or if online PDFs will do. There is, to an extent, a consensus regarding certain key books, that we'll aim to list below. This is by no means an exhaustive, and different students will have different preferred text books, but the books below will provide a good grounding for the subjects that you'll take.
If you've found a book useful that isn't on our list, why not get in touch with us and let us know, and we'll see if we can add it!

First year
Cytology, Histology & Embryology - Junquiras Basic Histology is the preference Histology text book, while Langman's Medical Embryology provides and excellent, if very detailed, embryology resource. Most students purchase Junquiras, while using the PDF for Langman's.
Anatomy & Specialised Histology - For Anatomy, most students agree that using both an Atlas and a traditional text book. There are a vast number of Atlas's available, Sobotta and Netters being the preferred. Our personal preference is for Sobota, in either English or Latin, as the more detailed and superior resource, which is worth making the investment in. Gray's Anatomy is still considered the gold standard text book resource, however many students prefer not to purchase the book, and instead use the online PDF version.
The most detailed Anatomy text that is available is that of Sinelnikov, the online PDFs provide an excellent reference text. There are many other excellent text resources for anatomy, some of which can be found here.
Medical Chemistry - The text book for medical chemistry is a university produced one, the pdf version can be accessed from here.
None of the other courses in the first year have recommended text books. Latin, Medical Physics and Biology will all have course books that we get directly from the University. These are work books that will be used in classes and cannot be purchased outside of the University.

Second year
Physiology - The two best Physiology text books that we have come across are Constanzo and Guyton. Again, most people recommend buying one of these books in the physical form.
Biochemistry - The most commonly used text book for Biochemistry is Lippincott's Illustrated Review, Ed, Harvey. If there are particular concepts which you require more detail for, Berg's Biochemistry is another option with a much higher level of detail than Lippincott.
No other subjects in second year have recommended texts, however Biophysics does require the purchase a university work book, as does Physiology.

Third year
General Surgery - The officially recommended text is one published by surgeons of the university, 'Fundamentals of General Surgery Short Course'. This is available from Xerox across the road from the pre-clinical building, however there is no PDF available.
Internal Medicine - Two well recommended texts for Internal Medicine are the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and Bate's Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking. Both books can be accessed as PDF which is generally sufficient.
Medical Genetics -
Microbiology - The officially recommended text book for Microbiology is Lange's Microbiology, but we would also recommend the additional text by Gladwin and Trattler, Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple.
Pathology & Pathophysiology - The gold standard, widely used, and recommended by every professor and student is still Robbin's Pathology a book well worth investing in.
Pharmacology - As with Pathology, there is considered one text book as the primary course text for Pharmacology, Rang and Dale's Pharmacology.
